Creepy but impressive: a resort in Argentina "revived" after the terrible disaster

The once popular bustling town of Villa Epecuen in Argentina was literally teeming with tourists. However, on November 10, 1985, a terrible catastrophe occurred - as a result of a dam break, the town went underwater.
Four decades later, the water level is gradually decreasing, leaving the city ruins on the surface. The Mirror has revealed how Argentina ' s Atlantis is being reborn.
Villa Epecuen was founded in 1920 on the eastern shore of the salt lake of the same name. Until the 1970s, more than 5,000 people lived in the settlement. The small town, which used to be loved by tourists, became uninhabitable after a catastrophic flood.
However, the popularity of this destination is growing - tourist offers encourage visitors to return and explore the ruins of the town.
Villa Epecuen in Argentina has long been the town's graveyard. When a wave from a neighboring lake broke through all barriers, the town remained underwater for more than 25 years.
In 2010, the water level receded and exposed the ruins of the former town. Now it's a different sight - petrified trees and ruins have led to Villa Epecuen being called one of the scariest places on the planet.
Located about 500 miles west of the capital Buenos Aires, the abandoned resort is often visited by tourists intrigued by the city's unusual history. One of the scariest ruins to be found at Villa Epecuen is that of a former slaughterhouse, which was built in the 1930s and has a tower that remains intact.
The resort of Epecuen was one of the country's biggest tourist destinations because of the high salt content in the lake, which was believed to cure many diseases and skin conditions. But when the town was submerged under water, the trees and buildings were preserved in the petrification process.
In the early 2010s, former resident Pablo Novak, who until his death on January 21, 2024, was the town's only resident, returned to Epecuen. He was called the loneliest man in the world.
