Chinese giant defeats Wilder by a brutal knockout. Video
American super heavyweight boxer Deontay Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KOs) suffered a crushing defeat against Zhang Zhilei (27-2-1, 22 KOs) from China. The fight at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, ended early.
The fight started at a leisurely pace with a minimum of sharp moments. Zhilei captured the center of the ring, trying to work on counterattacks. In the 2nd round, the 198-centimeter Chinese drove his opponent into a corner, punching his head several times.
Zhilei cut the corners of the ring well and didn't force things. Wilder was trying to keep his distance with his left hand, hardly using his right one. In the 5th three minutes, Deontay was able to break through the Chinese fighter's defense but did succeed.
The fight ended in the 5th round. Wilder missed a counter hook that caused his legs to buckle. The US boxer turned away from his opponent, but the referee did not have time to react.
Zhilei sent his opponent to the canvas with a powerful right straight punc. The American managed to get up, but the referee did not allow the fight to continue.
It should be noted that on the undercard of this fight, interim IBF heavyweight champion Filip Hrgovic (17-1, 14 KOs) suffered his first career defeat. At the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the 31-year-old Croatian sensationally lost to Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs) by TKO.
