ChatGPT suffered a large-scale failure: what is known
On the afternoon of Thursday, January 23, ChatGPT stopped opening for many users from different countries. The outage was also observed in Ukraine.
People massively reported an error displayed when trying to open the virtual assistant with generative artificial intelligence. In Ukraine, it was most often a message: "The web server reported an incorrect gateway error."
Some saw the warning "Unable to start a conversation." The following also appeared on the screen: "Something went wrong while generating the response. If this problem persists, please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com."
Residents of different countries, including the United States, Canada, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and others, complained online about problems with access to OpenAI services.
OpenAI confirmed the failure. It took a little over 30 minutes to resolve it, but we continued to monitor the situation.
The last time OpenAI had difficulties was the day before, on January 22, 2025. Back then, some users could not log in to platform.openai.com. There were also file upload errors for API and ChatGPT users.
As OBOZ.UA wrote, Sam Altman, CEO of the OpenAI artificial intelligence research laboratory and creator of the revolutionary ChatGPT, predicted the emergence of AGI, also known as superintelligence. The scientist believes that this breakthrough will happen in 2025.
