In the Brazilian soccer championship, the referee awarded a penalty after the ball was knocked away from a player by another ball. The episode was called the strangest 11-meter kick in history on social media.
In the 18th round "Flamengo" hosted "Criciuma". Rodrigo opened the scoring in the 35th minute. Pedro restored the balance in the second half, after which the hosts staged a real assault.
In the 40th minute of the second half, with the score at 1-1, the Flamengo striker was preparing to finish the attack when the visitors' midfielder Barreto kicked the ball, which was on the pitch after it was returned from the stands, towards a Flamengo player, thwarting his shot.
Referee Maguelson Lima Barbosa awarded a penalty and gave Barreto a yellow card. Gabriel converted the penalty, giving his team the win.

Despite all the claims of the Crisium players the penalty was legitimate.
"If a player on or off the field of play throws or kicks an object (other than the game ball) at an opposing player <...> play shall be restarted by a penalty kick directly from where the object hit or could have hit the person or ball concerned," the rules state.
