Big and practical: Volkswagen unveils the seven-seater Tayron
The automotive market continues to boom with large cars. And in continuation of this trend, the German automaker Volkswagen has introduced the new Tayron.
According to the Autocar magazine, it was presented as a replacement for the Tiguan Allspace. The new car was designed to be more practical, and it is equipped with a large number of on-board technologies.
In fact, the Volkswagen Tayron is a new generation of the Tiguan compact crossover. However, it has been lengthened by 231 mm, which has resulted in the option of a third row of seats and an additional 198 liters of trunk space.
The Tayron will be offered with four engines: mild hybrid gasoline, pure gasoline, hybrid gasoline and plug-in diesel. They will have different capacities.
The lineup opens with a 1.5-liter turbo mild hybrid that delivers 148 hp to the front wheels. It is followed by a 2.0-liter turbo petrol with 201 hp or 261 hp and front or all-wheel drive. Next up is a 2.0-liter turbo diesel that can be rated at 148 hp or 190 hp. The former is front-wheel drive and the latter is all-wheel drive. Each of these units is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The top model is a PHEV that combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a single electric motor and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The system transmits either 201 hp or 268 hp to the front wheels. According to the manufacturer, this configuration will have an electric-only range of more than 100 km in both versions.
However, the PHEV has a peculiarity - it cannot be a seven-seater due to the placement of the 19.7 kWh battery under the trunk floor. This version also loses 18 liters of trunk space compared to the 885 liters of the regular five-seater Tayron.
Inside, the Tayron gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with a 15-inch projection display available as an option. The new model will be delivered to the UK in March. The price is expected to be slightly higher than the Tiguan, which has a starting price of 34,075 pounds.
