What every Ukrainian should really do is explore their homeland. And not only popular places, but also little-known, unfamiliar natural centers. In fact, our country has many locations for hiking, trekking, and mountaineering. You hear about it for the first time? Well, it's time to explore the flora of the Ukrainian open spaces.
Dniester Canyon
The largest in Ukraine. It is located in the Chortkiv district of Ternopil region. The main initiator of its exploration was a prominent scientist Mykola Tchaikovskyi. He devoted more than 30 years to the cause.
The protected area stretches for 250 kilometers. There are about 50 large and small caves here. In particular, Optymistychna, Ozerna, and Atlantyda caves. Some of them were once inhabited by people.
Be sure to go to the Chervonohorodskyi waterfall. It reaches 16 meters. There is a legend that it was created by the Ottoman Turks in 1672 during the siege of the local castle.
Tourists will also be able to see several unique and rare plants. For example, the Turk's cap lily, Carpathian violet, dittany and horsetail feather grass.
We also recommend visiting the Rakovets Palace. The building was erected in the XVII century on a travertine rock. And, of course, go to the Bakota Bay. Here is an ancient rock monastery founded by St. Anthony.
Buky Canyon
It is located in the village of Buky, Cherkasy region. Its depth reaches more than 20 meters. In 1975, the center was declared a natural monument of national importance.
One of the most famous peaks is Rodionova. Climbing enthusiasts often come here. Tourists also like to go kayaking.
Be sure to go to the Vyr waterfall. In the nineteenth century, a water mill was built here. Today, travelers can see some of its fragments.
Teterivskyi canyon
It is located in the Zhytomyr region. The natural attraction is famous for its waterfalls and wooded slopes. Climbers come here most often. The most popular place for rock tourism is the Denyshi massif. Competitions are often held here. For those who have never practiced this sport, there are special easy routes.
By the way, the territory of the center became a filming location for the Ukrainian-Slovak historical series The Slavs.
We also recommend visiting the Tereshchenko Castle. It was built in 1910-1913 in the Italian Renaissance style. According to a legend, the building once had a glass floor under which carps swam. Unfortunately, it has not been preserved to this day. Today, travelers can only see the ruins of the palace.
Smotrytskyi canyon
It is located in the Khmelnytskyi region. It is characterized by a deep, narrow valley of the Smotrych River. It is dominated by steep slopes over 50 meters high. It is also home to about 350 species of unique plants. In particular, Hungarian leafless iris, greater pasque flower, European thimbleweed and Montpellier milkvetch.
Be sure to visit the Kamianets-Podilskyi fortress. It used to serve as a defense structure of Eastern Europe and the city of Kamianets. The attraction is also included in the list of "7 Wonders of Ukraine".
Here you can also see the Furriers' Tower, barracks dating back to the 1760s, the Kyivan Rus gate, and walk across the castle bridge.
Korostyshiv Canyon
It is located in the Zhytomyr region. In 1890, labradorite and gray granite were mined here. The quarry was considered one of the largest enterprises in the city. Later, after the collapse of the USSR, it was flooded.
Fir and birch trees grow along the banks. And the rocks are over 10 meters high. It is not surprising that fans of extreme tourism often come here.
