"Bargain purchase": top 3 inexpensive used cars that are cheap to operate

Alina MilsentNews
Rating of inexpensive cars

When choosing a car on the secondary market, you should be especially careful. There is a risk of buying a low-quality model, the associated costs of which will significantly exceed preliminary calculations - you will have to constantly invest in repairs.

There is also a fairly high chance of coming across models prone to serious breakdowns and mechanical problems. Experts told us about inexpensive used cars that have an ideal price-quality ratio and, as a bonus, are cheap to operate.

VW Polo

The Polo is one of the most popular VW models. It is a relatively inexpensive car with a high level of comfort and reliability.

The 2008 version with 115 thousand kilometers costs about UAH 120 thousand, which is significantly lower than the average price on the secondary market, while the 2010 version can be purchased for UAH 145 thousand. A 2016 Polo can be purchased for UAH 240 thousand. Important note: this study was conducted in the UK, so prices in Ukraine may differ.

The car has a 1.2-liter engine and quite good equipment. Its main advantage is low fuel costs. Stylish, comfortable, and economical, the Polo offers the famous German reliability.

Vauxhall Corsa

The compact Corsa is generally a slightly more affordable version than the Polo, but still offers economy, performance, and looks that will satisfy both novice and experienced drivers.

You can buy a 2012 model with 136 thousand kilometers for 130 thousand hryvnias and even find some 2013/14 models that sell for about the same budget. A 2018 Corsa is available online for 240 thousand hryvnias.

Ford Fiesta

The Ford Fiesta (2009-2020) has traditionally topped the bestseller charts in the UK. Ford sold over 100,000 Fiesta models in this country alone by the 2010s, after peaking at over 153,000 in 1987.

As such, the Fiesta has earned a reputation for reliability, and the fact that they are so common makes them a fairly budget-friendly option.

A 1-liter Fiesta from 2015 can be purchased for 115 thousand hryvnias, and a 2017 model for less than 250 thousand hryvnias. The only thing you should pay attention to when buying a cheaper Fiesta is that the Ecoboost engine of this model has previously had problems with overheating. Ford has recalled a small percentage of Fiest produced between 2011 and 2013, so it is better to focus on models released after 2014.
