In particular, model Sofia Richie Grainge has joined the rethinking of lip concealer, Bustle reports. The influencer recorded a video on TikTok that has garnered over 3 million views. In her tutorial, Richie revealed one secret: do not smear the product but apply it to the middle of the lips, blending it for an ombre effect.

The history of the trend

According to Shirranda Edwards, makeup artist at KIKO Milano US, in the '00s, makeup could not be completed without concealer as a lipstick. The modern approach, however, is to create the illusion of extra volume with just a drop of product in the center of the lips, Edwards says.

"The appeal is that you can create a trendy look with something you already have in your makeup bag," she says. You can use any concealer: cream or matte. "Regardless of the finish, this technique will provide a beautiful ombre effect," the makeup artist adds.

A new look at the trend

According to Edwards, you can easily apply concealer to your lips in a way that looks modern and trendy.

Step 1

Use a scrub to prepare your lips. Rinse off the residue with water, leaving no balm behind.

Step 2

Apply a neutral lipstick that is a shade or two darker than your skin tone.

Step 3

Next, use a thick concealer, preferably a shade or two lighter than your skin tone. Apply a drop of product in the center of the upper and lower lips.

Step 4

Use your fingers to blend the concealer towards the corners of your mouth. The emphasis should remain in the center of the lips, like a highlighter.

Step 5

As a finish, the expert suggests applying a transparent lip gloss. Voila! You get a modernized look at the nostalgic trend.
