The captain of the Azerbaijani national football team, Emin Mahmudov, scored a phenomenal goal in the 9th round of the 2024 European Championship qualifiers. The 31-year-old Neftçi midfielder managed to hit the Swedish national team's goal with a shot from 50 meters.

In the 89th minute, with a 2-0 lead, Shakhruddin Makhammadaliev took the ball away from the Swedes and passed it to Makhmudov. The latter finished the round ball with one touch and sent it into the net with a second flying kick.

The meeting ended with a 3-0 victory for Azerbaijan. The match had no tournament significance as both teams lost their theoretical chances to make it to the finals.
