Ukrainian polar explorers have recorded an eerie phenomenon in the Antarctic. Near the Akademik Vernadsky station, scientists recorded a strange sound that would be perfect for the background of a horror movie.

The scientists shared their recording on the Facebook page of the National Antarctic Science Center. "It sounds like a creature from the other world is crying," the page's subscribers commented on the video.

"Be sure to turn on the sound of the video to hear one of the voices of the Antarctic. It is the ice in the ocean that is "talking"," the polar explorers noted in their post.

"An eerie sound. As if a heavy door is opening, but you don't know what's there...," "Chainsaw and creaking of falling trees," "I read a lot of science fiction, so this sound reminded me of the conversation of some unknown creatures," the subscribers of the scientific page left comments under the video.

The scientists immediately rushed to reassure everyone who was frightened by their video and explained the source of the strange creaking.

"In August, the temperature in the Vernadsky area was around -10°C for several weeks. During this time, the ocean near the shore was frozen with ice several centimeters thick. Then the tide began to rise, causing the ice to break up: large cracks formed, dividing the solid cover into separate plates. The subsequent oscillation and deformation of these plates caused such eerie creaks," the polar explorers from the Vernadsky station emphasized.
