According to analysts, tourists traveling to Europe are increasingly seeking active recreation rather than relaxation on the beach. In particular, there is a growing interest in outdoor activities.

To determine which European countries will become the most popular tourist destinations in 2024, Mabrian turned to artificial intelligence. In total, more than 380 million mentions of travel on social media for the period from January to October 2023 were analyzed, EuroNews reports.

Among the trends that motivate people to travel in Europe are active recreation and the cultural aspect. Thanks to the analysis, it was determined that Italy will be the most popular country among tourists this year.

First place: Italy, Piedmont

The country in southern Europe took the top spot with four potentially popular destinations. Piedmont earned the top spot thanks to its combination of culture, nature, and gastronomy.

Others include Alba, where the annual white truffle fair takes place, the ski resort of Via Latta, the vineyards in Langhe, and the shimmering lakes of Maggiore. Turin International Airport provides easy access to the Italian region from all over the world.

Second place: France, New Aquitaine

Wine, food and nature put New Aquitaine in France in second place. The southwestern region, known for its oysters and Bordeaux vineyards, is also a great place for hiking and skiing in the Pyrenees.

Third place: United Kingdom, East Anglia

East Anglia was ranked third for its balance between culture and nature. From the prestigious museums of Cambridge and the Norfolk Broads, the region's attractions are easily accessible from London and via international airports.

Fourth place: France, Occitania

France is once again in fourth place, with the Occitanie region, home to orchards, hiking trails, and the UNESCO-listed South Canal.

The list also includes North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, home to Cologne and many fairy-tale castles. It is followed by German Hamburg in ninth place and Lisbon in Portugal in 10th place.
