A Ukrainian movie made it to the list: Oscar 2025 nominees announced

On January 23, at 15:30, the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the Oscar 2025. Two Ukrainian films touching upon social issues and featuring the daily life of Ukrainians competed for a place.

The shortlisted films were Porcelain War, directed by Slava Leontyev and his colleague Brendan Bellomo, and Once Upon a Time in Ukraine, a Ukraine-US co-production by Betsy West and Earle Mack. However, only Porcelain War was nominated. The nominees were announced live.

As a reminder, the nominations were postponed for almost a week due to the massive wildfires in Los Angeles. This gave Academy members more time to vote.
