There are clashes near the Ukrainian Arctic station Akademik Vernadsky. A "strict inspector" visited the penguins.

On the Facebook page of the National Antarctic Research Center, Ukrainian polar explorers said that the Antarctic penguin is often called a policeman because the black thin stripe on the bird's chin resembles a strap on a constable's helmet. And this time, this strict warden decided to "squeeze" the nest from the neighbors, but they still defended theirs, the researchers emphasized in the post.

First, the Antarctic penguin appeared near the pier and apparently detected some disturbance in one of the nests of sub-Antarctic penguins that live on Galindez Island near Vernadsky.

"An unexpected guest began to come to this nest and peck at its inhabitants. The local couple actively fought him off. This went on for several days, but eventually the penguins found a common ground, and the "policeman" moved to another part of the island," the Ukrainian polar explorers wrote in their post.

According to the researchers, of the three species of penguins living in the Vernadsky area, Antarctic penguins are the most aggressive. However, their number on Galindega is extremely scarce.

The polar explorers assume that perhaps the Antarctic pair was looking for a place to nest. And the male decided to "squeeze" the nest from the sub-Antarctic penguins. "But they defended their territory," emphasized Svitozar Davydenko, a biologist of the 29th UAE.

Ukrainian scientists say that penguins mostly live peacefully in the Antarctic because they have different lifestyles and hunting strategies. However, as we can see, quarrels between species sometimes occur.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that the network was amazed by a video of penguins stealing stones near Vernadsky.
