Where billionaires and world stars spend their winter vacations

Most people plan their long-awaited holiday vacations for the winter. Some people go to ski resorts, choosing entertainment "according to the weather," while others prefer to change the cold climate to a warm one and go to the sea or ocean. The world's richest people do the same. However, their vacations, of course, come with impressive price tags.

For example, billionaires are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars per night in luxury apartments. And that's without taking into account private jet flights, gourmet delicacies on the menu, and some entertainment. Business Insider has revealed where the world's richest people spend their vacations.

According to the article, billionaires and world stars mostly celebrated Christmas with their families this year, but not in their main residences. Some went with their families to a beach cottage in Martha's Vineyard, others to a family ranch in Wyoming. Many American billionaires have their own house in Aspen, where they can relax with their loved ones. This is a town in Colorado, known for its luxurious ski resort.

Aspen has the highest density of wealthy people in the US with a net worth of $30 million or more: one for every 67 residents. Billionaires such as Jeff Bezos and Michael Dell have been spotted there.

Other popular US ski resorts include Lake Tahoe in California and Nevada, as well as the cozy and atmospheric town of Vail, Colorado.

In Europe, the most popular destinations are Gstaad and Verbier in Switzerland, Kitzbühel in Austria, known for its annual ski races, and Courchevel in the French Alps. The latter is known for hosting VIPs such as David and Victoria Beckham, Elton John, Prince William and Kate Middleton.

"They like to come to resorts where there is an established city with established places to stay for the elite class. Kitzbühel has a branch of the Japanese restaurant Zuma, and Courchevel has a branch of the luxury hotel Cheval Blanc," the source says.

For those who prefer warmth or want to spend a week on the beach to defrost after skiing, the Caribbean remains the most popular destination. St. Barts is a particularly popular Caribbean destination for New Year's Eve celebrations. It regularly hosts Jeff Bezos and his beloved, and the yachts of billionaires David Geffen, Bernard Arnault, Barry Diller, and others have been spotted off the coast.

"They want to do nothing, so they choose the same resort year after year. They want to be waited on, to be looked after," the publication notes.

Jumby Bay, a resort on the Caribbean island of Antigua, where Oprah Winfrey and Richard Branson are rumored to have estates, is also popular. The cost of rooms there starts at $2,700 per night, although billionaires are likely to fork out for a villa for $13,300 per night. Another popular option is Aman in the Dominican Republic, where rooms cost from $2900 to $4200 per night.

Fans of warm resorts are also heading to Africa for Christmas and New Year. Wealthy people rent private villas in nature reserves, such as Ol Jogi in Kenya and Saanen Island National Park in Tanzania, which can cost up to $40,000 per night.
