A historic event took place in the final of the Euro 2024 playoffs

For the first time in its history, the Georgian national football team has made it to the European Championships. In the playoff final of the qualifying tournament for the 2024 UEFA European Championship, French coach Willy Sagnol's team beat Greece 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

The hosts were supported by a full stadium in Tbilisi, waiting for a historic triumph. The game itself did not please the fans with a large number of scoring chances. During the entire first half, the teams managed to get to the goal only once.

After the break, the teams closed in even more for fear of making a mistake. As a result, the match rolled smoothly into overtime. Interestingly, overtime was the most spectacular part of the match. At one point, the Greeks were close to scoring, but a shot by defender Konstantinos Mavropanos hit the crossbar.

The fate of the ticket to Euro 2024 was decided in a series of 11-meter penalties. The visitors failed to realize their shots twice and lost.

For Georgia, this triumph was historic, and the fans went into a real frenzy. First, they filled the stadium field in Tbilisi, and later celebrated the victory on the streets of Georgian cities.
