Better Call Saul explores the moral downfall of former con man Jimmy McGill, who becomes a self-centered criminal defense lawyer named Saul Goodman. In addition to the main storyline, Better Call Saul contains a black-and-white flash-forward set in 2010 after the events of Breaking Bad, which explores the consequences of the protagonist's possible partnership with drug lord Walter White.

The series has received critical acclaim and is considered an outstanding example of a successful spinoff. Many film experts called Better Call Saul a worthy successor to the original, and some even recognized it as better than its predecessor.

In September 2019, The Guardian ranked the show at number 48 on its list of the "100 Best Television Shows of the 21st Century." However, the Emmy Awards apparently don't share the show's enthusiasm as Better Call Saul hasn't won a single nomination out of more than 50.
