41-year-old Russian detained in a popular Thai resort: the tourist faces deportation for life

Russian man faces deportation from Thailand due to overstayed visa

In Thailand, on the island of Koh Samui, a fairly popular Asian country among Russian tourists, an offender who had overstayed his visa by 20 months was detained. It was 41-year-old Russian Dmitry Odintsov, who was also running an illegal business.

He was arrested by migration police officers during a New Year's Eve campaign against foreigners who illegally stayed on the islands of Ko Samui, Ko Pha-Ngan and Ko Tao, the Bangkok Post reports. The man faces a life sentence.

Odintsov's visa expired on April 24, 2022. He overstayed his stay by more than 600 days.

In particular, the Russian lived on the island for money received from an illegal business. He ran an online resource where he offered psychological counseling to Russian tourists. One session cost 2,500 baht (2,787 UAH). To catch the offender, the police officer made an appointment with Odintsov for a consultation.

The Russian also created a group on Telegram in which he talked about life in Ko Samui and how to get a visa in Thailand. In one of the messages, he wrote that he "does not check the Internet every day" and has "limited work resources." Probably, Odintsov was afraid of deportation, so he tried to hide. He did not mention his name but created a nickname.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that Ukrainian actress Ksenia Mishyna, who went on vacation to Thailand with her son, received hate from Ukrainians online. They condemned the star's cheerful mood, saying that it was "not the right time."
