Your lawn will be thicker and healthier in spring if you follow these 3 simple steps in February
February is the perfect time to get your lawn ready for spring. After the winter, the grass may not look its best: overgrown, mottled, or covered with weeds. However, a few simple steps taken now will make your lawn look thicker, greener, and healthier in the coming season.
OBOZ.UA tells how to improve the condition of the lawn in February.
Remove the "worm gypsum"
Earthworms are good for the soil. They improve air exchange and drainage, which prevents waterlogging. However, their activity leaves "worm gypsum" on the surface of the lawn - clumps of earth that have rolled up. This makes the grass look dirty and untidy.
What to do?
Take a broom or rake and remove the "worm traces" without damaging the grass. This way, your lawn will be clean and healthy again.
Check your lawn for moss and weeds
Moss and weeds are the main competitors of grass for nutrients, water, and sunlight. Their presence weakens the soil and prevents the grass from growing thick and beautiful.
What to do?
In February, it is not recommended to actively remove moss or weeds, as the grass has not yet started to grow and may not recover from the intervention. Instead, inspect the lawn, mark problem areas, and start treating them in warmer weather.
Do not walk on frozen or wet grass
In winter, grass is particularly vulnerable. If the lawn is frozen or wet, the blades of grass break easily when you step on them, which can cause damage and stress to the plants.
What to do?
Avoid walking on frozen or wet lawns. Damaged grass is more susceptible to fungal diseases and mold, and it will take longer to recover in the spring.
