Nectarine, known for its sweet taste, can be a real decoration for your garden. However, many people believe that growing it in Ukrainian conditions is too difficult.

In fact, you can plant nectarines yourself, even from seed. A self-confessed agronomist told us about the secrets of successful cultivation of this fruit .

Nectarine is a close relative of the peach. It has a smooth skin and useful properties.

A nectarine tree can grow up to 7 meters tall. It is a very thermophilic plant, so it needs a lot of sunlight to grow well. However, at the same time, some varieties can withstand even up to 32 degrees below zero.

How to grow nectarine from seed

Choose seeds from large fruits. It is advisable that they are not early ripening varieties.

First, soak the stone in water for 5 days, and then put it in a mixture of sand and sawdust in a 1:1 ratio. Next, moisten it all and put it in a loose box and bury it in the ground in the fall so that its top is level with the soil.

Finally, water the box, mulch it with sawdust and grass with a layer of 5 cm and leave it for the winter. In the spring, plant the sprouted seeds in the garden. You can transplant the nectarine to a permanent place in 1-2 years.

Soil

Nectarine requires drained, sandy loamy, light loamy soil with optimal acidity (pH 6-7).

Care

For about the first 2 years, the seedling is watered as the soil dries up. Regular weeding around the trunk circle and loosening of the soil is also required.

The crown of the tree is trimmed every year so that it has a cup-shaped shape.

Finally, it is necessary to protect the tree from diseases. Nectarines are usually affected by fungal diseases, so keep this in mind if you plan to grow it.
