Sevastopolska Square in Kyiv was formed at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s under the name Nova. Until the early 2000s, there was no underground tunnel, and the pedestrian crossing looked completely different, as can be seen in a photo taken in the 1980s.

The old photo was published on the Facebook page of the Solomenka.kiev community. It received its current name in 1967.

"Sevastopol Square. Photo: 1980s, Serhii Pyaterykov," the post reads.

The published image shows that there used to be no underpass at this location. After the reconstruction in 2001, a highway was built under the square in the newly constructed tunnel, and the traffic interchange became different.

As a reminder, the Lvivska Brama ghost station of the Syretsko-Pecherska metro line in Kyiv is one of the most favorite destinations for urban diggers and extreme tourism enthusiasts. The unfinished facility of the Kyiv subway is shrouded in mystery and legends.

Until 1979, one of the forgotten symbols of old Kyiv could be seen in the place where the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian people is located today. The Elephant Fountain managed to survive the Second World War, but not the Soviet regime.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, for a long time the Central Railway Station was considered the main gate of Kyiv. In 1915, an unknown amateur photographer took several photos of its main users – passengers.
