Will Smith will star in the new "Matrix"? The actor intrigued fans with a mysterious video
Back in 1997, the filmmakers Lana and Lilly Wachowski, who created the cult movie The Matrix, offered American actor Will Smith to play the lead role in their project. At the time, the star refused to take part in the film, but recently he intrigued fans with a mysterious video that fueled rumors that he might play in the new installment of the media franchise.
On his Instagram page, the 56-year-old celebrity posted a post in which he speculated on what could happen to The Matrix if he were to join the film's production. The post made fans of the actor's work wonder if their idol was hinting at his participation in the cult action movie.
"In 1997, the Wachowskis offered Will Smith the role of Neo in The Matrix. Smith refused. He chose The Wild, Wild West, believing that it was more suitable for him at the time. But the question remains: "What would The Matrix be like with Will Smith as Neo? Wake up, Will. The Matrix has you," the video says.
The post does not contain any specific indications that the American actor will join the new film in the franchise. However, the star's fans seem to want to see him on the screen, so they wrote in the comments: "Make it happen", "Is this a hint that you'll be in the next Matrix movie?", "It better be true".
However, as noted by Variety, Will Smith fans should not get their hopes up that their idol will star in the movie, at least not yet. Warner Bros. has indeed announced that the world will see the fifth installment of The Matrix, where the directors will be an American, not the Wachowski sisters, but Drew Goddard. However, according to insiders, Smith is not currently involved in the creation of the movie franchise.
