If you have a furry pet at home, you've probably noticed that your cat likes to sit at your laptop. The reason is not that he wants to watch his favorite TV show with you or, for that matter, ruin the text you've typed. He just wants to demonstrate that this laptop is his.

Experts on cat behavior emphasize that cats have an extremely developed sense of ownership. Therefore, it often rubs against other people's things to leave its scent there, Sciencefocus writes.

According to Dr. David Sands, an animal psychology expert with more than 25 years of clinical experience, cats in your laptop are primarily attracted to its scent. After all, the owner regularly leaves their scents on the laptop.

"Your cat can smell your scent all over the keyboard. Cats are olfactory machines from the tip of their tails to the tip of their noses. Their world is based on smells. Since cats' eyesight is developed for night hunting, their sense of smell is very important at other times as well," says Sands.

However, the scientist warns that the cat is not just sniffing around the owner's laptop, it has a good reason for doing so. "The cat wants to leave its own scent and displace yours. It has to do with a sense of ownership, so your cat is actually saying to the laptop: "You belong to me!" David emphasizes.

The animal psychology expert advises not to believe that your cat is showing great love when it rubs against its owner. "People always think that cats rubbing against you or things you touch express love. But in fact, cats are very possessive animals. For them, the more they can pass by you and absorb your scent, the better!" the scientist assured.

Dr. David Sand also emphasized that cats should in no way be compared to dogs. "While dogs were bred to be our companions, cats are still quite feral. They were bred to fight parasites and are not social creatures – they live on their own," the expert believes.
