Experts estimate that washing machines account for up to 10 percent of total energy costs in homes. In addition, a lot of money has to be spent on detergents and water. Therefore, to optimize the washing process, it is worth avoiding common mistakes.

High temperature

Many of us believe that only washing at high temperatures can effectively clean the fabric. However, experts point out that washing at 30°C gives the same results as washing at 40°C or 60°C, saving money at the same time.

In addition, some fabrics lose their beautiful appearance faster if washed in hot or warm water.

Delicate washing

Researchers at Newcastle University in the UK have found that a delicate fabrics wash program is not only one of the reasons for higher bills but also has a negative impact on the environment.

In addition to using a lot of water, delicate washing also contributes to the release of microfibers from clothes, especially if they are made of synthetic materials.

It has been estimated that as many as 1.4 million fibers can be separated from polyester fabrics during the delicate cycle, which is about 600,000 more than when washing cotton.

Rules for economical washing:

• Use the prewash option only when the clothes are very dirty;
• Wait until a sufficient amount of dirty clothes is collected before starting the washing machine;
