Which plants absolutely must not be pruned in January: they may not bloom in spring
Pruning helps not only to improve the flowering of the plant but also to add aesthetics to your garden.
But you should remember that you can only do this at certain times during the year, depending on what plants are growing in your garden. According to experts, there are some plants that should not be pruned in January, OBOZ.UA writes.
So, in January, you should avoid pruning spring-flowering shrubs such as forsythia, lilacs, and flowering currants. For example, if you prune them in January, the sensitive cut part of the plant will be exposed to the harsh climate, which will provide unfavorable conditions for growth.
It can then lead to death due to its cutting. Pruning these plants in winter can remove flower buds that have already formed, and reduce or stop flowering next spring.
According to experts, it is best to wait until they have faded, usually in late spring or early summer, to prune them.
Likewise, gardeners also recommended avoiding pruning evergreens unnecessarily, as they can be susceptible to cold damage.
In winter, you can prune dormant trees such as apple, pear, or sycamore trees if it is not too cold to shape them or remove damaged wood.
