Traditional Ukrainian pastries impress not only with their incredible taste but also with their appearance. In addition, they are usually quite easy to prepare, the main thing is to do it with a good mood and love.
This is the opinion of a food blogger with the nickname valerikiry. On Instagram, she shared how to make Zirka pie according to an authentic recipe that will be perfect for Christmas.
Ingredients
- milk - 240 ml
- yeast - 25 g
- sugar - 120 g
- eggs - 2 pcs
- butter - 60 g
- flour - 570 g
- salt - a pinch
- thick jam
Method of preparation
1. Add 2 tbsp of sugar, yeast, and 5 tbsp of flour to milk and mix. Put the dough under a towel in a warm place for 10 minutes.
2. Add all the remaining sugar, eggs and melted butter (not hot) to the dough, mix and add the sifted flour in parts. First, mix with a spatula, and then knead on the surface with your hands (the dough will stick a little). For convenience, you can grease your hands with vegetable oil or sprinkle the surface with flour. Put it in a warm place for 1 hour.
3. Knead the dough to get the air out and divide it into three equal parts. Form each part into a circle (the same size, you can use a plate for precision).
4. Layer the dough with jam on the parchment three times.
5. Put a small plate in the middle and make cuts. First, 4 cuts opposite each other. Then 2 cuts in each area that has been formed. The total number of cuts should be 12.
6. Take two petals of dough lying side by side and twist them toward each other. You need to make 2 turns and connect the edges together.
7. Brush the cake with egg yolk (1 egg yolk + 2 tbsp of milk).
8. Bake at 190 degrees for 20 minutes.
