Do you want to diversify your weekend and are you looking for something interesting to do? Today we're telling you about a place where every tourist can relax and learn something new. To know where to start your trip in Kropyvnytskyi, read on.
Oleksandriya Theater
It operated from the end of the XIX century to the beginning and middle of the XX century. Today it houses the Palace of Culture.
The theater appeared in the 1880s. At first it served as a warehouse. Later, thanks to a merchant who carried out a complete reconstruction in 1902, the theater acquired a modern look.
During the reconstruction, special attention was paid to acoustics. The walls were built of hollow bricks, floor and ceiling were laid, and the corners of the walls were rounded. In addition, the stage was expanded, electric lighting was installed, and a foyer was built.
According to the writer Marko Kropyvnytskyi's memoirs, in the 1870s Oleksandriya was considered one of the few cities in Ukraine where Ukrainian repertoire was staged by amateur theater companies.
Oleksandriya Museum of Local Lore
The building was founded in 1967. It was initiated by supporters of the history of their native land who collected thousands of exhibits.
For some time, local artists gathered here. Later, the club "U Sviti Prekrasnoho" (In the World of Beautiful Things) was housed there.
In 1991, the building became a municipal museum.
Today, there are departments of history, nature, and ethnography, which house more than 15,000 items of the main fund.
Tourists can see paleontological and archaeological finds, weapons samples, astronauts' belongings, orders, medals, albums, books, etc.
Budynok Pyschevycha
The building was built in the early 20th century for a politician who served as the head of the Oleksandriya Zemstvo from 1903 to 1917.
In the 1919-1920s, meetings of the city's military revolutionary committee were held here. In addition, various institutions were located in the house: from the district party committee to the office of political education, the city committee of the Komsomol, and even the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments.
After Perestroika, the building housed a municipal housing office, and since 2003, the building has been rented by a private enterprise that has set up a catering and recreation facility called the Budynok Pyschevycha (Pyshchevych House).
Morozivskyi Coal Mine
Located about 15 kilometers from Oleksandriya near the village of Pantaivka.
The mine operated from 1970 to 2009. About 10 million tons of coal were mined here, and 15,000 people worked at the site.
Today, the site of the open pit is a L-shaped quarry flooded by groundwater. And there is still abandoned equipment.
It is also considered one of the most interesting sites for extreme industrial tourism in Ukraine.
Giant Chessboard
Located on Soborna Street. A modern chessboard with forged metal pieces that are up to a meter high has been set up there.
A gazebo with tables and benches for comfortable play was also installed nearby.
Church of St. Joseph the Betrothed
The church is located in the village of Berezivka, about 10 kilometers from Oleksandriya.
The first wooden church was founded in 1792. In 1901, a stone shrine with a bell tower was added.
The prayer room is characterized by a distinct Byzantine style.
