What to check in a car before a long trip in winter: top 6 things
Few people are ready to hit the road by car if there is heavy snowfall and ice, as such weather can easily lead to dangerous situations.
Liam Barnes, manager of the private license plate company TopReg, recommended that drivers check a few things before going on a long trip in winter, Express reports.
These are: sufficient "fuel" in the tank and "oil" in the engine, good condition of the "rubber" on the tires, "coolant" in the radiator, good working condition of the electrical system, and enough "glass washer" to clean the front and rear windows.
If you check these things, you can spot small problems before they develop into a much more serious malfunction that can become a real disaster on the road.
The expert also advised to keep a large distance from the car in front to give it enough time to stop in an emergency.
"Impatient drivers who are stuck in slow traffic on snowy roads may be tempted to drive very close to the car in front of them. But what they may not realize is that when there is snow and ice on the roads, your stopping distance increases significantly, and having a car in front of you at a very short distance can be very dangerous," Barnes said.
