One day, the angel Gabriel appeared with the news that soon the couple would have a son, who should be named John. Zacharias did not believe the angel, and the Lord took away his tongue. Only on the day his son was born did Zacharias speak again. When King Herod was killing babies, Zechariah and Elizabeth hid John in the desert.
