The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is a religious holiday dedicated to one of the most revered saints in Christianity - John the Baptist. This saint played a key role in the life of Jesus by baptizing him in the Jordan River. On this day, solemn services are held in churches. Believers turn to John the Baptist with prayers, asking for his intercession and grace. In some regions, there are also folk customs associated with the holiday, such as the blessing of water.
The weather on this day was used to predict what kind of spring it would be. If it suddenly warmed up on January 7, spring would be early. The moon shines brightly at night, and the sky is clear and starry - before severe frosts. People used to say that the more snow there is, the more productive the year will be.
On January 7, we celebrate Postage Stamp Day or Philatelist Day. The holiday was founded in 1935 in Austria, when the initiators decided to dedicate this day to the popularization of philately through stamp exhibitions and events organized by post offices around the world. In 1937, the International Philatelic Federation (FIP) officially declared January 7 as World Postage Stamp Day.
January 7 is also Fossil Day (or Old Rock Day). The unofficial holiday is dedicated to the study and collection of stones that hold the secrets of past eras. In the course of research, it was determined that fossils are evidence of the life of our ancestors, which has been preserved in the form of clear imprints of their existence.
