What holidays are celebrated on February 25

According to the new calendar, on February 25, believers honor the memory of St. Tarasius, Archbishop of Constantinople.

St. Tarasius was born into a noble family. After receiving a good education, he served at the court of Emperor Constantine VI and his mother Irene. In 784, Tarasius was elected to the patriarchal throne. He refused this high office, considering himself unworthy, but then submitted to the general will. At his insistence, the VII Ecumenical Council was convened in Nicaea in 787, at which the veneration of holy icons was restored. St. Tarasius wisely led the church for 22 years. He led a strict ascetic life, spent all his wealth on charity, and helped the poor, orphans, and widows. St. Tarasius died in 806.

The Day of the Aviation Engineering Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is celebrated annually on February 25. The holiday was established "...in order to maintain the prestige of the engineering and aviation service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to mobilize the engineering and technical staff for the successful completion of tasks to maintain the constant combat readiness of aircraft..." according to the Order of the Ministry of Defense of March 19, 2010.

World Spay Day is celebrated on the last Tuesday of February. This day is dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of sterilizing pets, as well as stray cats and dogs. Sterilization helps prevent uncontrolled reproduction, which reduces the number of stray animals on the streets.

February 25 is also the Day of Proper Nutrition. This is a great opportunity to remind us of the importance of a healthy lifestyle, a balanced diet, and good eating habits. Traditionally, nutritionists, doctors, and nutrition experts hold educational events to talk about the benefits of healthy foods, the harmful effects of fast food, and the importance of following a diet.

On February 25, Hungary commemorates the victims of communism. Hungary was influenced by communist ideas twice: first in 1919 and then from 1947 to 1989. Both periods were marked by repression, restrictions on freedoms, and human rights violations. The first regime did not last long, but left a tragic mark on the country's history. After World War II, Hungary came under the influence of the Soviet Union, which led to the establishment of a communist regime that lasted for more than 40 years.

February 25 is the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Soviet Occupation in Georgia. On February 25, 1921, Red Army units entered Tbilisi, marking the beginning of the Soviet occupation of the country. This event was the result of Soviet Russia's military invasion of Georgia, which lasted from February 11 to March 18, 1921. As a result of the occupation, Georgia lost its independence and was incorporated into the Soviet Union.
