What cars are best for long trips: a selection
Finding a reliable car that will become a long-term investment and will not lose value over the years is a challenge with an asterisk. Mileage of more than 350 thousand kilometers is no longer a source of pride - it is almost a necessity for financial planning.
Fortunately, modern cars last much longer, but this does not mean that some used cars are not superior to new models. Experts conducted a study to find out which cars are best suited for long trips.
According to Forbes, cars since 1970 have served an average of about 5.7 years and stopped at 160 thousand kilometers. Today, the average age of passenger cars in the United States is about 12.5 years, and many vehicles confidently surpass the 500 thousand kilometers mark. Of course, this is subject to regular maintenance throughout the entire service life.
According to Consumer Reports (CR), the best strategy is to buy a model that has proven safety, received high marks in road tests, and has a strong reliability record.
Recently, CR published a list of relatively trouble-free new cars, minivans, pickups, and SUVs that are likely to last more than 350,000 miles.
