Few people associate the fall season with a good time for sowing. However, experienced gardeners claim that many crops will take root in the garden better and produce more abundantly if planted just before winter.

The main thing is to be in time before the onset of cold weather, say experienced gardeners. OBOZ.UA has collected their tips on what to plant in the garden in September and even in October. The main thing is that the plants should have at least a few weeks before the onset of cold weather so that they can take root well.

Carrots

In the fall, carrot seeds are sown to a depth of 4 cm, and the bed is mulched. The plant should germinate with the first warmth and produce a young harvest in early summer.

Cabbage

Be careful when planting cabbage in the fall. The plant may not be able to withstand spring frosts. However, if you can protect it from this by setting up a greenhouse, you can sow white cabbage, cauliflower, Peking cabbage, and broccoli in the fall.

Dill

In September, dill can be sown to harvest young greens before the cold weather. But you can also plant it for the winter. In this case, the seeds are placed quite densely and done when the daytime temperature drops to 3 degrees Celsius - no higher.

Parsley

Parsley can be planted for the winter in a similar way. It tolerates frosts down to -10 degrees and sprouts quite early in spring.

Beets

It is better to sow beets before winter during a steady cold snap. In this case, they will not have time to germinate before frost, which will be disastrous for them. Young root crops planted in the fall can be harvested in late spring.

Onions.

This fruit should have time to take root well before the onset of cold weather. Therefore, it needs up to two weeks of relatively warm weather. But make sure that the onions do not sprout. If it does, the risk of crop failure increases significantly.

Garlic

The best time to plant winter garlic is from the last decade of September to the end of October. Do not bury the seed too deeply - up to 10 cm. This will be enough for the plant to overwinter well in the ground and give high-quality viable seedlings.
