"Violation of all laws! They have no right!" Russian biathlon throws a tantrum over IBU's position
Two-time Olympic champion Dmitry Vasiliev has harshly criticized the International Biathlon Union (IBU). The winner of the Sarajevo '84 and Calgary '88 Games reacted hysterically to the organization's statement on the suspension of Russian representatives until the aggressor country stops the war in Ukraine.
Vasiliev said this in an interview with the VseProSport portal. The accomplice of Vladimir Putin's dictatorial regime repeated the traditional narratives of Kremlin propaganda about the politicization of sports and also called IBU officials Russophobes who allegedly unfairly punish athletes from Russia.
"This is a violation of all laws. They have no right to be a punitive body, it is beyond the competence of the IBU Executive Committee. They are the ones who are inventing something on their own. It doesn't matter what conditions they ask for. They do not have the competence to discuss political issues and punish or pardon anyone. This is an abuse of power. It's all cunning and lawlessness. Their competence includes only the development and popularization of sports, not politics," Vasiliev said.
Earlier, he predicted "complete paralysis " for Russian biathlon due to sanctions. In addition, Vasilyev said that Europeans, and Germans in particular, should "kneel endlessly " before the Russians.
