Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha commented on the incident with the detention of Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk at the airport in Krakow, Poland. He noted that the Ministry immediately responded to the incident and facilitated the athlete's release.

The minister coordinated the actions of Ukrainian diplomats while on the border of Ukraine and Romania, the ministry said. The new foreign minister is heading there on his first foreign visit.

"On behalf of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, we immediately responded to the detention of Oleksandr Usyk in Krakow and facilitated his release. I was informed of the details by our Consul General. We consider such actions to be disproportionate and unacceptable towards our champion and will send a note to the Polish side," Sibiha said.

He spoke with Usyk by phone to make sure he was released and could follow his route without interference.

As reported by MP Zhan Beleniuk, world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk was arrested at the airport in the Polish city of Krakow.

The Consul General of Ukraine in Krakow immediately went to the airport to clarify the circumstances of the situation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Ukrainian side categorically rejects the attitude toward its citizen and champion shown in the video.

Shortly afterward , President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced that our champion was already free. The Head of State instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko to investigate all the details of the incident at Krakow Airport.

Usyk himself called what happened at the Krakow airport a misunderstanding. On his Instagram, the boxer wrote a short post thanking everyone for their concern and Ukrainian diplomats for their support.

In addition, Oleksandr paid tribute to the work of Polish security forces.
