Kyiv, along with the rest of Ukraine, celebrates its 33rd Independence Day on Saturday, August 24. Celebrations were held on St. Sophia Square, while thousands of ordinary Ukrainians took to the streets in embroidered shirts and blue and yellow flags to honor this important day for the country.
People also carry flowers to pay tribute to the heroes who died for Ukraine. OBOZ.UA is publishing an exclusive photo report from the capital on Independence Day.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24, Polish President Andrzej Duda and Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonite arrived in Kyiv. According to Duda, Ukrainians are not alone in their struggle: Poland supports them and will continue to support them until they win.
In her speech, Šimonite promised to do everything to bring the victory closer. "The victory of free people, which we will celebrate together - with electricity, gas, and without Russians," she said.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that those who wished disaster on our land will get it at home with interest. This is not gloating and not blind revenge, but a regularity, the head of state explained.
