Supernova Airlines received the rights to operate scheduled international flights Lviv – Prague and Kyiv – Prague starting November 1, 2024, for an unlimited period. This opens up new prospects for the company, but the exact time of the start of flights remains unknown.

This is stated in the order of the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine No. 789 dated 21.10.2024. Supernova Airlines, a subsidiary of Nova Poshta Group, is one of the newest players in the Ukrainian air transportation market.

What the order says

The company was established back in 2021 to provide fast delivery of mail, e-commerce goods, and cargo between Ukraine and international destinations. Before the outbreak of full-scale war in Ukraine, the company planned to start operating regular cargo flights, but the war changed these plans.

Supernova Airlines received its Operator's Certificate on January 6, 2023, which allowed the company to officially begin preparations for air cargo operations. One of the first steps was to purchase two AN-26 aircraft on lease for cargo flights. As early as the fall of 2023, the company received the rights to operate air routes from Lviv and Kyiv to key international hubs such as New York, Warsaw, Liege, and other cities, which indicates Supernova Airlines' ambitious plans to expand its services.

The most recent news, however, concerns the company's obtaining the rights to operate scheduled flights on the Lviv-Prague and Kyiv-Prague routes starting from November 1, 2024, for an unlimited period. According to Order No. 789, Supernova Airlines has received all the necessary permits to organize flights on these routes, which opens up new opportunities for the company's development in the European market.

If we look at the company's plans before the war, back in 2019-2020, Nova Poshta tested a domestic air delivery service, delivering urgent parcels in 24 hours between the western and eastern parts of Ukraine. However, quarantine restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic made this service economically unprofitable at the time. But that didn't stop the company from pursuing further plans. In 2021, Nova Poshta announced the creation of its own airline, which became a kind of sensation in the Ukrainian logistics market. The new company aimed to fill a gap in the domestic air cargo market and enter international routes.

Supernova Airlines' plans for the future look ambitious. At the same time, it is worth noting that it is currently unknown when the company plans to start operating regular flights on the new routes. Given the current situation in the country, the prospects may change, although the very fact that the company has obtained the rights to operate the lines indicates the seriousness of its intentions.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, Ukraine is discussing the possibility of reopening Lviv airport during the war, but security remains a top priority. The final decision will depend on the results of consultations and support from international partners.
