Ukraine is at the final stage of implementing the EU Tobacco Control Directive. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin

According to Kuzin, on January 11, 2024, new regulations on the labeling of tobacco products came into force to reduce smoking rates - 65% of the packaging area will contain images of diseases caused by smoking, text warning of the dangers and consequences of smoking, and a QR code with a link to a service that helps to quit smoking.

"This is the final stage of the implementation of European Commission Directive 40/2014, which provides for a set of measures to protect the public from the harm of tobacco products and e-cigarettes among the countries of the European Union," said Ihor Kuzin.

It is worth reminding that Ukraine ratified the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in 2006 and has made significant progress since then. In particular, this was made possible by the implementation of effective legislative changes, most of which came into force in 2023.

In its annual Report on the Global Tobacco Epidemic, the WHO ranked Ukraine 74th in the ranking of successful countries that effectively protect the population from tobacco use.
