Top 3 dog breeds that are not recommended for new owners
Dogs are a beloved animal that often integrates seamlessly into many people's families. They can make great company and usually offer unrelenting, unconditional love. Their reputation as "man's best friend" is understandable.
Behaviorist dog trainer Will Atherton shared on his Instagram three dog breeds that he believes should be avoided by new owners.
Japanese Akita
"This is a breed that I simply do not recommend to the vast majority of people, let alone first-time owners," the expert said.
"These strong dogs - in body and character - are not recommended for first-time owners. They need an experienced owner and early and constant socialization and training.
Working German Shepherd
The German Shepherd is a working breed with a serious personality and needs attention to training from an early age. It is also only suitable for experienced owners.
Border Collie
Dogs of this breed are very intelligent, but require constant physical and mental exertion. In the absence of the necessary loads, they are prone to self-destruction (gnawing paws, eating tail hair) and destruction of property (spoiling things, chewing on toys, tearing wallpaper and linoleum). They require a lot of attention, constant training in new skills, and are not suitable for enclosures or outdoor keeping.
