To avoid unexpected surprises: winter tips for diesel car owners

In winter, diesel cars require more attention, as low temperatures can sometimes cause problems when starting the engine. While warm weather can compromise on the quality of diesel fuel or a fuel filter that hasn't been replaced in time, winter frosts can reveal things that your car has previously "forgiven" you.

In order to avoid unexpected surprises and ensure uninterrupted operation of the car, we turned to WOG experts for recommendations.

Fill your car with high-quality winter diesel fuel only. If the temperature outside has dropped to -15°-17°C, do not rush to start the car immediately. First, turn on the ignition without starting the engine to allow the spark plugs to warm up. After that, the car will start more easily. It is important to pay attention to the "how the temperature feels" indicator, because with the wind, the real temperature can reach -19°C or even -21°C! It is at such moments that you should think about Arctic Diesel, because most of the time your car is in the cold, and the slightest flaw in the fuel system can cause a breakdown.

Don't take any risks - take care of your car and prepare it for harsh winter conditions! The WOG network has been supplying Finnish Arctic diesel to Ukraine for the second year in a row. Arctic diesel Mustang+ can withstand temperatures down to -40◦С and ensures reliable car starting, and its frost resistance has been tested in the "fierce" winter. Each batch of Arctic Mustang+ diesel fuel undergoes a multi-level control before it arrives at Ukrainian filling stations, which fully guarantees compliance with standards and high quality. Sampling and testing of the fuel is carried out at all stages of supply, from the tank farm to the filling station. And if the frosts recede sharply, the car will run on Arctic Diesel without any problems, even in the event of a sharp transition from minus to plus.

Check the battery and electrical equipment: frost can quickly discharge a weak car battery, so it is important to monitor its condition before the onset of cold weather. If the car hasn't been driven for a long time (10 days or more), the battery loses a significant portion of its charge and self-discharges. The battery life depends on many factors, but it usually lasts from 3 to 5 years. Replace the fuel filter according to your vehicle's maintenance schedule and check it before the onset of cold weather. A clogged filter impedes fuel flow and can cause the engine to stall.

Keep the fuel tank full: In cold weather, temperature changes can cause condensation to form in a half-empty vehicle tank, which then gets into the fuel as water. Since water is heavier than diesel, it sinks to the bottom and, if it gets into the filter, can freeze, blocking the fuel supply to the engine.

Clear visibility from the driver's seat is another important aspect of road safety. We do not recommend diluting the washer fluid with water, as this may damage the washer system. The premium formula of WOG washer fluid works effectively even at -30°C, clearing snow, ice, salt residues, grease stains and other contaminants from the windshield and optical devices of the car.

Don't forget, regardless of the technical condition of your car, you should always have a flashlight, a scraper with a snow brush, a cable, wires for external starting, a shovel in case of heavy snowfall, and an emergency stop sign. These items will help you not only in case of problems with your car, but also in case of an emergency on the road.
