The world's first "city of the future" was developed by the Japanese company Toyota. In the fall of 2025, Woven City will be ready to welcome its residents.

The high-tech spot is located at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan. The settlement includes at least 11 smart homes powered by hydrogen, AI, and other advanced technologies, DailyMail reports.

CEO Akio Toyoda said that the $10 billion Woven City will be a "lab" for innovators who will develop the technologies of the future.

This fall, the "city of the future" will welcome its first 100 residents, who will live there for free. However, they will be employed by Toyota and will work on developing experimental technologies for the company.

The program will eventually be expanded to 2,200 more people, including innovators and their families, parents, and pets.

Toyota has unveiled some of the technologies that will be developed in the smart city. Among them are drones that safely accompany you home at night, interactive pet robots that will help the elderly, and robots that will help you perform everyday tasks.

"Autonomous driving will be among the many technologies we intend to develop at Woven City. Among other things, we hope to use AI to help expand the reach of Woven City…allowing people to virtually interact with the city and its projects," said Toyota's CEO.

The engineers of the "city of the future" are developing a flying self-driving robot taxi that has already made more than 300 fully automated flights. The Japanese company is also working on a racing car that can drift autonomously.

"Woven City is more than just a place to live, work, and play. It's a living laboratory where the residents are willing participants, giving inventors the opportunity to freely test their ideas in a secure, real-life setting," emphasized Toyoda.

As a reminder, Toyota first announced its plans to build the "city of the future" in 2021. And in 4 years, the high-tech project has become a reality.
