After a series of powerful solar flares last week, our planet was hit by a geomagnetic storm. It triggered an extraordinarily beautiful astronomical phenomenon - the Northern Lights.

Eyewitnesses from different parts of the world shared incredible photos of the bright show. In particular, residents of the United States, Canada, England, Germany, and Ireland posted their photos.

According to the Space Weather Prediction Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a stunning radiance of rays, spirals and flickers could be seen along the entire U.S.-Canadian border and even in the south, namely in Oregon and Pennsylvania.

The Northern Lights were spotted in the Pittsburgh area in the Allegheny County of Pennsylvania, US, CBS News reports.

"My husband and I traveled to Grand Marais to see the fall colors and were thrilled to get a great view of the northern lights too," said American Carol Bauer in an interview with Storyful, USA Today reports. She managed to capture the swirls of red and green dancing in the night sky on camera.

Residents of south-central Wisconsin were also watching the beauty of the northern lights until Monday morning, 15news reports.

The Northern Lights were shining brightly in the sky of Weyburn, Canada, too, according to SASKToday.ca.

"My fifth Northern Lights in 8 months in Canada. This time it shined incredibly beautifully. One of the most magical natural phenomena I've ever seen," Ira Matsievska, a resident of Lviv, who is currently in Canada, wrote on her Facebook page.

Lesya Moskalenko from Kyiv, who is now in Iceland, also captured the aurora borealis. "Tonight, the whole sky was lit up! It was dancing, flowing in streams, swirling and even falling like meteors," the Ukrainian shared her impressions on Facebook.

Incredible green lights appeared on Monday night over Cullercoats Bay in North Tyneside, on the northeast coast of England.
