The safest countries in Europe for tourists: Ukraine's place in the ranking
Where to go on vacation without worrying about your safety? All European countries, by and large, guarantee tourists their rights. However, there are several countries where it is not scary to walk alone at night in the streets of remote areas, and leave your bag on a bench unattended during the day. Read more about this in the OBOZREVATEL selection.
According to the latest ranking of the safest countries for tourists, published by the Schengen Visa Info portal, in 2023, experts rated 39 countries that are most popular among vacationers. Each of them was analyzed according to 9 parameters, including the total number of murders, assaults, road deaths over the past year, the risk of natural disasters, and the global peace index.
Ukraine was included in the sample. However, due to the war, constant rocket attacks, and other dangers, it scored 75.1 points out of 100 (the higher the score, the worse the security index). For comparison, Switzerland received 45 points, while Russia scored 93.8, practically topping another anti-rating.
Let's take a closer look at the top leaders.
5th place - Luxembourg
One of the smallest countries in Europe boasts a high standard of living for its citizens, low crime, and top positions in many global rankings. For example, this country is ranked 4th in the Passport Index ranking, and its residents can visit 188 countries without visas.
Luxembourg is ideal for a short vacation, as its sights can be visited in just a week. Be sure to pay attention to the old quarter of the capital, the city of Vieanden, Mamers Castle, and Larochette.
The country is famous not only for historical locations but also for the best wineries in Europe. This craft is represented in almost every village and town in Luxembourg. Therefore, there are many different excursion programs to vineyards and local production of quality wine.
4th place - Denmark
If you type "Denmark" into a search engine, you will immediately see how many rankings it occupies first place in. It is both the happiest and most comfortable country in the world. And no wonder, because the local government has done everything possible to ensure that its citizens live in prosperity and complete safety. Therefore, tourists are treated accordingly.
Prices for accommodation and food in this country are very high, so it is very difficult to organize a budget trip to interesting locations in Denmark. But you won't find the level of relaxation that this picturesque country provides almost anywhere else.
If you're planning a trip to Denmark, put the Eresund Bridge, Thomas Dumbo's Forgotten Giants, the Viking Ship Museum, and Frederiksborg Castle on your "must see" list.
3rd place - Norway
For several years in a row, Norway has been at the top of the ranking of countries with the highest living standards. It is also one of the three happiest countries in the world. Perhaps that is why the crime rate is so low here. There is also almost no unemployment, residents receive very high wages, and the tourism industry is highly developed.
Of course, there are a lot of historical sights in Norway. But people come here primarily for the pristine nature. The most popular among tourists are the Seven Sisters Falls, Prekestulen Rock, Troll's Tongue, the Lofoten Islands, and the vibrant city of Ålesund.
2 place - Iceland
Iceland is traditionally included in all possible world rankings with the "best" mark. This is confirmed by a simple statistical fact: the average life expectancy of Icelanders is the highest in the world.
It is not known what exactly makes this country so comfortable for its citizens: incredible nature, abundance of resources, social policy of the current government, or all of the above. But tourists who have visited Iceland at least once speak of it only with admiration.
If you have already come here, be sure to visit the Valley of Geysers, Reynisfjara black sand beach, Skógafjös Waterfall, Skaftafjöll Cave, and Hvítserkur Rock.
1st place - Switzerland
Is it worthwhile to advertise a country that confidently ranks first in the ranking of the safest countries in Europe? There is almost nowhere else in the world with such a low crime rate. This is facilitated not only by the high standard of living, but also by the system of law enforcement, which is aimed at preventing crimes rather than investigating them.
Needless to say, even prisons here look like expensive hotels. And criminals are not punished here, but "re-educated" and socialized. Psychologists and teachers work with them to help them get on the right track.
Incredible nature and a large number of historical locations make Switzerland very attractive to tourists. But not everyone can afford a vacation in this country. If you still want to go on vacation in this direction, then pay attention to such cities as Zurich, Geneva, Bern, St. Moritz, and Appenzell.
