The Kyiv funicular started carrying passengers back in 1905 and is now a must-see for tourists. Many passengers have a photo of it, but in the 1980s, a picture was taken from a rare angle.

The archival photo was published in the Facebook "Thirst: Kyiv is Interesting" community. You can see what this location looked like about 40 years ago.

"Funicular, 1980s," the post reads.

The published photo shows how this popular form of public transportation among tourists and Kyiv residents looked like in those years, in particular its lower station before several buildings were erected nearby. It is worth adding that the angle chosen by the photographer is unique for this photo as you can see the funicular and its two stations.

Kyiv funicular is a funicular system connecting the historic Upper Town and Podil in Kyiv. It runs along the slope of Volodymyrska Hill with a beautiful view of the Dnipro River. The line consists of two stations. It was built between 1902 and 1905, and at that time it was the second funicular in Ukraine after the Odesa funicular.
