The murder of a 17-year-old Ukrainian basketball player: a touching tribute to Volodymyr Yermakov in Germany. Video.
The German basketball club ART Giants held an action in memory of Ukrainian Volodymyr Yermakov during a regular match of the national youth championship. On February 10, the 17-year-old athlete was attacked at the Oberhausen bus station and died of stab wounds.
The Düsseldorf club named the match against Padeborn in honor of the Ukrainian. The team's fans joined the Together Against Violence campaign.
Donation boxes were set up, a book of condolences was displayed, and club members, players, and officials wore special T-shirts with the words "33. Volodymyr Yermakov is forever in our hearts".
Before the match, a minute of silence was held, and in the 33rd minute of the match, the audience honored Volodymyr's memory with applause.
Along with Yermakov, his friend Artem Kozachenko was wounded. The guys played together for ART Giants. Volodymyr used to play basketball and played in the children's teams Teivaz and 5T.EAM-DUSSH-12 (born in 2006). As a member of the Ukrainian U-16 national team, he played at the 2022 European Championships in Bulgaria.
