The maid explained why you shouldn't make your bed and leave the TV on in a hotel
A member of the hotel staff admitted that maids are annoyed by a made-up bed before guests leave, a TV on while rooms are being cleaned, and a "Do Not Disturb" sign that has not been removed. She also spoke about some tips that tourists can do to make the maids' job a little easier.
Everyone knows that all over the world, hotel service staff face problems, from minor nuisances to serious incidents. They deal with a lot of nuances of their customers every day, so Business Insider interviewed former maids on the condition of complete anonymity.
- The TV is on
The maid admitted that due to the sound of the TV being left on, they sometimes cannot determine whether it is possible to clean or whether someone is in the room.
"We have to contact the staff at the front desk, who are usually always busy," the maid said.
- In-room beauty treatments
Another irritating factor for hotel employees is hair coloring in the bathroom.
"It takes an hour or more to restore the bathtub and sink to their original whiteness," said a hotel employee.
- Beverages
"There's nothing better than getting a cold drink or ice cream during your shift. When you leave, leave a sweet treat or a pristine bottle of soda in the fridge," advises the former maid.
- Bed linen
The governess noted that they are pleased when a guest removes the bed linen and puts the used towels in it before leaving.
"It saves a lot of time for the maid, who has to fulfill the cleaning standard within a strictly defined time frame," she said.
- The bed after sleeping
The maid emphasized that it is not necessary to make the bed perfectly before leaving.
- Wastebasket
"People often overfill the wastebasket and start dumping waste on the floor. It is better to ask for a couple more garbage bags," the girl said.
- Medical devices
According to the maid, insulin needles from diabetics can often be found in the room, and thrown into the trash without a cover.
"I got injured by a needle and spent six months getting blood tests and taking medication to protect myself from this mistake," the maid said.
- The "Do Not Disturb" sign
The hotel employee asked tourists to use the sign if they wanted to be disturbed and not to leave it on the door after leaving the room.
- Good attitude towards the staff
"I know we are just maids. I know how inconvenient it is for you to have cleaners in your room. But that's our job – to take care of our guests and make their rooms comfortable," she concluded.
