This is reported by Kicker, citing a statement by the wife of the football legend, Susanne Schaefer. "It is with deep sadness that I report on behalf of the family that my partner Andreas Brehme died suddenly and unexpectedly as a result of cardiac arrest," she said.

Brehme was considered one of the best defenders of the 80s and 90s. He started his career at Saarbrücken, after which he ended up at Kaiserslautern. He played here for a total of 10 years, playing 274 matches in the Bundesliga alone, and in 1997 he sensationally became the German champion with the team.
