The daughter of one of the leading Putin supporters, Vladimir Mashkov, has officially disowned her father and Russia
Popular Russian actress Maria Mashkova, who strongly condemns the aggression of her country and the Putin regime, has become a U.S. citizen. Over five years ago, the daughter of Vladimir Mashkov, a staunch supporter of Putin and star of the TV series "Liquidation," moved to America, which her father considered to be "decaying," and has now officially become a citizen.
Indeed, now the star of the once-popular TV series "Don't be born beautiful" is called Masha, not Maria. The ex-Russian actress revealed the significant changes in her life on her personal Instagram page.
"Together with my husband and daughters, I have become an American citizen. I can now vote and serve on a jury. I have changed my name (I used to be Maria Vladimirovna Mashkova), and now I am a new person: Masha Mashkova," the actress joyfully announced. She also mentioned her upcoming debut in American cinema and a TV series.
In contrast, Mashkova had long rejected roles in Russian projects. The propagandists have also been hesitant to feature the anti-war artist in their productions, often cutting her scenes from finished films.
The actress is unsure how obtaining American citizenship will impact her already strained relationship with her father, who is a staunch supporter of the war. All her attempts to communicate the truth to Vladimir Mashkov have been met with failure and contempt from her father, who accuses her of "betraying the motherland."
Nevertheless, many celebrity friends and fans rushed to congratulate Maria, now known as Masha, on her renunciation of her home country and acquiring U.S. citizenship. Ukrainian singer Vera Brezhneva, for instance, congratulated the actress with a brief message: "Hurray."
As a reminder, after the Russian invasion, Putinist actor Vladimir Mashkov publicly asked his daughter to return to Russia and apologized to Russians for her "betrayal."
Recently, Maria Mashkova found a Ukrainian sister. It is Mila Zelenska from Kharkiv. The actress' followers immediately assumed that she might be a relative of the Ukrainian president. However, Maria denied this information. Together with her sister, they published information about their family history.
As OBOZ.UA previously wrote, Mashkova admitted that she was afraid to return home, as she could face prison for her anti-war statements.
