Start eating at 08:17. An Oxford mathematician has discovered the formula for the perfect breakfast buffet
An equation by Oxford University's Tom Crawford shows how to get the most out of a hotel breakfast. He argues that you shouldn't sleep late, because breakfast should start at 08:17 sharp.
In his research, Dr. Crawford also advises against popular belief and to start the morning meal with hot, not cold, food. He also explains what exactly to choose for the buffet, writes the Daily Mail.
Tom Crawford's formula for the perfect breakfast buffet shows exactly what you should eat at a buffet and in what order. According to him, there are six key components of the buffet experience, including the obvious elements (such as the type and amount of food), as well as the time of arrival and the amount of time spent digesting the food. The Oxford University researcher emphasizes that to get a maximum score of 10 according to his criteria, visitors should start breakfast at 8:17 a.m. sharp and eat two plates of food.
"The first one is a hot plate with one piece of toast, a portion of eggs, a portion of beans, two pieces of bacon, and two sausages. The second plate, which should be eaten 16 minutes after the first to facilitate digestion, should contain two slices of smoked salmon, two servings of fruit, one pastry, one yogurt, and a bowl of cereal," the mathematician described in detail.
Dr. Crawford decided to come up with the formula for the perfect breakfast after researchers found that a quarter of Britons put off their plans for the day after overeating in hotels in the morning.
Most people choose a hotel based on food. An Asda Travel survey has shown that three out of five Britons choose a vacation spot based on the quality of all-inclusive food.
"Our research has shown that we are fans of buffet breakfast, but we consume it in the wrong way. This leads to a nap after breakfast or disappointment because we could not eat that delicious cupcake that looked so appetizing on the table. And we want to help our customers get the most out of their shopping experience," said Neil Foster, Head of Asda Money.
Foster expressed his hope that Tom Crawford's formula will help every hotel customer get the most out of their breakfast experience.
Michelle Frankl, a professor of chemistry at Bryn Mawr College in the United States, complemented the Oxford mathematician's research with her own advice on the perfect cup of tea.
The secret of the perfect tea from the American scientist is to use a short and sturdy mug and to give preference to tea leaves in bags. Professor Frankl also advises adding warm milk to tea to reduce the likelihood of curdling. But the most interesting part of this formula is her advice to add a pinch of salt to the tea to "reduce bitterness."
