Socks will be snow-white again: just add one ingredient to the wash
Socks often change color due to sweat, which can penetrate deep into the fabric and turn snow-white items into yellow or gray.
You can try to bleach your socks, but the aggressive chemicals in bleach will react with sweat proteins, which will simply aggravate the stains rather than remove them. According to experts, the best way to wash white socks is to abandon conventional stain removers and use ordinary baking soda, OBOZ.UA writes.
It is a natural sock whitener because it is an alkaline substance that can neutralize acids in sweat stains to help destroy stains. Baking soda is also an abrasive to remove any residue in socks, such as dirt or bacteria, to make the white fabric brighter again.
What's also great about baking soda is that it is also a deodorizer, so your socks will smell fresh.
How to whiten socks with baking soda
All you need to do is add about 120 g of baking soda along with your laundry detergent to the drawer of your washing machine.
Choose cold water instead of hot water. Cold water preserves the white color, preventing the fibers from fading. Use a good quality detergent formulated specifically for white colors.
Your socks should now be white and completely clean without the use of bleach. If you still have problems with bleaching your socks, soak them in a solution of hydrogen peroxide, which can also remove stubborn stains.
