Royal "Dressed herring" with a secret ingredient: how to cook a salad in a new way
For many decades, Dressed herring has been considered one of the most popular salads among residents of the former USSR. It is most often prepared for the New Year's table, where it takes center stage because of its striking appearance.
A food blogger with the nickname goodfoodnatalie shared how to make the Dressed herring salad in a new way on TikTok. She also added one secret ingredient that gave the dish an interesting flavor.

Ingredients
- Boiled potatoes
- Herring fillet
- Marinated onion
- Boiled eggs
- Caviar paste
- Boiled carrots
- Boiled beetroot
- Mayonnaise
How to cook
1. Boil the eggs and vegetables until cooked. Vegetables can be boiled in a saucepan, but a double boiler is best. You can also bake them in the oven to retain the most flavor.
2. Grate all vegetables and eggs in separate containers on a fine grater.
3. Put a layer of boiled potatoes on the bottom of a deep plate. Cover with a thin layer of mayonnaise.

4. Put a layer of diced herring. Top with pickled onions and a thin layer of mayonnaise again.
5. Mix the boiled eggs with the caviar paste. If necessary, add a little mayonnaise. Make a layer of the mixture.
6. Put the carrots and a layer of mayonnaise.
